About


Shimboot is a collection of scripts for patching a Chrome OS RMA shim to serve as a bootloader for a standard Linux distribution. It allows you to boot a full desktop Debian install on a Chromebook, without needing to unenroll it or modify the firmware.

You Will Need


A SD card (recomended, USB drives work) with at least 32 GB of storage. (might work lower than that but please dont)

A personal computer with administrator permissions on Windows or macOS.

Finding Your Chromebook Board Name


This can be done with the following steps:

Downloading a prebuilt shimboot shim for your board


You can download a shim for your board name at this latest github release https://github.com/ading2210/shimboot/releases/latest.

Flashing the USB Drive


You will need your extracted "shimboot_BOARDNAME.zip" containing your "shimboot_BOARDNAME.bin" file from the github and the Chromebook Recovery Utility Chrome extension.
